Impossible to start a career here - Visual Merchandiser Forever 21 Employee Review

Pros

Most of my coworkers were easy to get along with. I am a visual merchandiser, and I LOVE being creative and executing displays for our store. I am happy with my schedule, I usually work 7 am to 3:30 pm 4 days a week, with a closing shift once a week and Sundays off.

Cons

First of all, the benefits are horrible. You can't start earning PTO until you've worked with the company for six months, and after that, you accumulate 1 hour of PTO time every week (that means, after a year and a half with this company, you will only have 4.5 days of paid time off). Second, the discount is a mere 10% - that hardly covers sales tax. Third, the management team is horrible. All they do is stand around the register and have personal conversations instead of helping customers or coaching associates. Fourth, there is no training whatsoever - you are thrown into your position and expected to know exactly what to do. Fifth, don't even think about being home for the holidays. The whole month of December is "blacked out", meaning NO ONE is allowed to request any time off at all. The last, and largest con, is that there is hardly room for growth. One of the assistant managers had been with the company for 4 1/2 years until she was finally offered a management position. The store manager was not offered her position until 9 years with the company. It's a shame, employees are not very valuable to this company.
