Pros

Very strong company to have on your resume if wanting to stay in Minneapolis/St. Paul area. They have a lot of structure, systems, and processes in place that allow you to hit the ground running. The IT systems are well integrated and sophisticated.

Cons

Very hierarchical culture. You better be ready to brown nose your manager and upper management. In fact I felt I was encouraged to not support my peers and to skip their needs and requests in order to essentially be my director's everyday assistant. There are many ivy league MBA grads in the Finance group that are very career and upward focused which creates a competitive, sometimes hostile environment that feeds even more into brown nosing. You are essentially forced to "have coffee" with as many others internally as possible in order to "build your brand". If you don't, it will be frowned upon. Your manager will ask how many people you've been having coffee with. It's forced brown nosing essentially. You won't be just a financial analyst, you will be constantly selling yourself to everyone you come across. If you're not ready for that and not ready to focus your entire life on General Mills, skip this company. If you don't have an MBA you won't make over $100K so either get it before applying or be ready to do all of the above plus get an MBA at night and on weekends. I also thought they would pay better than average in this market....they don't.
