Pros
Good as a basic , starting position in finance . Plenty of opportunity for personal growth and development , from the client interactions , more than anything . Their classes and training to prepare seasonal tax preparers are great as far as content and almost free for employees . The business is steady compared to an individual tax preparer's office . Just the name on my resume opened doors for me later . The option to work full time or part time is great as also the fact that this can be a great second job for someone trying to rack up experience . Each employee has the flexibility to excel and learn their own way .
Cons
No benefits . Commission based job . After working really hard , starting as a newbie and becoming one of top 2 or 3 producers in one of the busiest offices , the 20% of money collected from clients that I was supposed to recieve became 18.8 the 2nd year and 16.8% the third year and so on . The company's business model is being threatened by tax software and cheaper competition , so company management comes up with newer and better ways to screw employees each year to pay them less for the work they do . The commission situation also makes competition between employees sometimes unpleasant . Tax preparer cannot really be a bread-and-butter job
