Pros

Chill workplace culture that varied as management came and went. Colleagues were consistently A-tier. I watched 6 years worth of crew members and managers come through and there was only a handful of weirdos. Made some good friends from this place. The workday shift was super chill, very kind elderly patrons who were thankful for your assistance. Benefits are great, part-time employment basis + $2 tickets should be abused if you even remotely enjoy movies.

Cons

Poor rostering, specifically understaffing on busy days and overstaffing on quiet days. The busy days can be extremely busy and the quiet days are dead. Penrith is a quantity over quality location a big outlier cinema compared to other sites and it shows in the amount of broken seats and dirty carpets. Higher level management (Location Managers) can be too harsh on KPI's, pressuring staff to push upsells/rewards program beyond what is reasonable. In some cases, actively encouraging staff to omit the truth (asking patrons if they want to upgrade to x popcorn tin and not informing them of the price difference). This issue is largely on a per-person basis, differing managers will have different ways of managing but overall sentiment from head office seems to hinge purely on results and numbers and if the crew isn't blamed, middle-management is. HOST team members (aka crew trainers) did not get any sort of benefits until ~6 months before I left, finally getting that whole +$1 pay increase to be the person that takes the brunt of the blame for new hire training mishaps or poor team results. I have gotten more formal recognition at my current position of 5 months than I have at Hoyts over 6 years.
