The agency presents itself as mission-driven and values-based due to its nonprofit focus, but internally the culture is anything but supportive. Leadership, particularly from the owner, Paul is defined by constant micromanagement, passive-aggressive communication, and a fixation on inconsequential details that derail real progress. Instead of empowering employees to think strategically or creatively, the environment fosters fear, second-guessing, and paralysis.
Employees are made to feel like they’re walking on eggshells at all times. One small mistake,often subjective or trivial can feel like a career-ending offense. There is little psychological safety, no room to learn or grow, and no trust extended to staff to do the jobs they were hired for. Confidence is routinely undermined rather than built.
Feedback is inconsistent and often delivered in a way that feels punitive rather than constructive. Priorities shift constantly, yet employees are blamed for not reading minds or anticipating unspoken expectations. This creates a culture of anxiety, burnout, and self-censorship, where people focus more on avoiding blame than doing meaningful or innovative work.
