Pros

Great benefits and decent salary Some very talented staff with long term commitment to delivering technology and solutions to support Health Authorities and health care delivery

Cons

1) Disappointing lack of direction, budget or authority to implement proactive solutions to support Health Authorities. 2) Too many contractors hired as executives and management, with conflicts of interest, making strategic decisions without best practices, that only benefit themselves in the long term. 3) Contracted Executives and Contracted managers continue to replace employees with contractors with zero long term interest or commitment in seeing quality services delivered to health authorities. They lack the sense of pride and personal investment for success most employees have. 4) Zero transparency from executives and management, gives a sense of instability and lack honesty from the leadership. 5) There has in the past been some absolutely disrespectful treatment from one particular executive, with profanity laden attacks on some managers and staff. Vile vulgar language that would see an employee fired in a heart beat. This executive has recenly left BCCSS after 2 years, and been hired at PHSA in a leadership role. Name rhymes with AJ, but spelled differently. 6)Keeping in mind that all staff are required to complete respectful workplace training, it would appear that these same standards do not apply to some executives. Pros

There are lot's of interesting technologies and projects to engage in. The health authorities across BC look to HSSBC for infrastructure support, so it's quite rewarding to feel that your contributing in a positive way to improvement in healthcare for people who need it. The TPM's and TA's are a good lot of people. The organisation is actively looking for new talent, because of high turnover and growth

Cons

There is a lot of transition, which is hampering the release of projects to the design and PM teams. There are now better TPM reporting standards, but still a total lack of SA design standards. Some of the senior management don't understand, and don't seem to care, about the technical solutions HSSBC delivers. The various technology areas are subject to "siloes". They are departmentalized and it is difficult to collaborate with them in order to get a set of tasks done on schedule. Turnover is very high. Many people discover they don't like the environment.

Pros

- decent (not great) medical benefits - very good vacation and sick leave grants - work life balance

Cons

- organization in constant state of reorganization, there have been 4 CIO's in 5 years - lack of direction from top, largely because HSSBC does not have a budget it controls therefore it cannot create direction - organization has accomplished very very little in 5 years of existence - very little value on investing in employee skillsets, however managers are constantly being sent on training - roles are very granular and defined, you do one very small piece with no ability to gain or enhance a rounded skillset - little to no opportunity for career advancement, punch the clock and wait for your pension at the end - wages are 20% - 30% below industry average for Vancouver area, even in a unionized shop people are paid at different rates for the same job title. lip service has been paid for 5yrs however no real attempt to resolve wage descrepancies
