Great for a high school job... If you are socially inept and can't think for yourself then this could be a great career. - Anonymous employee Heinens Employee Review

Pros

There are some very friendly regular customers who treat the employees like family. The employee discount of 10% is nice because then you are only paying slightly more than any other grocery store.

Cons

The level of social derelicts that "run" the departments is astounding. For a customer service based industry, it seems that the brothers have started to lose sight of what customer service actually means. They should be thankful that there is a cult following for their store and small select group of dedicated employees that actually adhere to the standards that Heinens was built upon. Most managers are never present on the floor and operate behind a closed door. The level of discord amongst the regular employees is rampant and it is a shame because with decent leadership I believe that the company would flourish. Work/Life balance is non-existent. You work all hours of the day and you only find out your schedule the Friday before the next week. Wanna make plans? Good luck! Schedules are often changed after they are posted too.

Pros

All holidays except Easter are paid. Christmas and Thanksgiving have two days off. Professional environment Great opportunities for feedback from managers Opens and closes at fairly reasonable times (8pm on weekdays, 7pm on weekends) Opportunities for growth within the company Union

Cons

Not all management is good and cares about their team/store Those in skilled positions (like fruit cutter or trimmer in produce) can easily get stuck in their jobs Schedules are currently being made by Logile with management input. It is a poor system and should never have been implemented. There are plenty of studies available about the negative impacts of using machine learning systems for making schedules for human beings. While Heinens pays more than many, it is still not a living wage for full time employees. Union
