Pros

Free company car/gas Opportunity to build Leadership Skills

Cons

Work/Life balance- expect to work a minimum 60 hours per week. There will be weeks of 100+ hours per week if the location is understaffed (Open 7 am, close 3 am... repeat 6-7 days) Middle management is underqualified and uneducated. Most areas and general managers hold no bachelor's degree much less an MBA. Peter principle is very much in effect and seniority is the name of the game. Very little emphasis on performance. Unfortunately, much of the current culture is a byproduct of the spin-off from Ford and a reduction in minimum qualifications as a means to reduce base salary. If you choose to better yourself through education or are eager to achieve promotion through high performance, expect to be seen as a threat and have your career thwarted. Compensation is laughable when compared to other companies/industries. Expect 14-20 thousand less than a comparable position elsewhere. Frankly, though, Hertz is upfront about the low pay. The goal has much become "We strive to no longer be int the top 5 worst companies to work for... We are now the top 15 worst companies and feel strongly about our progress for improvement." NOTE: I may sound bitter, but it truly is sad to see what was once a great culture brought to its knees and the company nearing bankruptcy. This job can be great though if you look at it short term and do not get heavily invested. I was able to land an improved management role at Amazon due to my leadership skills and experience gained from my time at Hertz. My main advice is to remain objective and do not get too attached. The skills are very transferable in other industries.

Pros

No micromagement , You earn incentives when customers forget to fill the gas , also when the car was damaged and they accept to pay , managers are nice , deal with Karen and difficult customers sometimes , rush hours where there is no room for cars but it is worth it

Cons

Fluctuate schedule you might work middle shift today , tomorrow you work early morning shift like 5AM and next day you work closing shift 1 to 9 PM. It is just bad for me because I just experienced personal household problem so I have only one car in the household so I had to leave

Pros

It is possible to make a difference if you are determined enough. Many engineers work hard and most try.

Cons

The company has a ton of tech debt that it recognized, but is not being addressed. Management controls the time, scope and so quality is falling. The people they have hired lack fundamentals understanding of software development practices. The company often will make decisions to save small amounts of money with their facilities and tools they give to employees without understanding the opportunity cost that was lost. Overtime is required. You can't work here if you want to have a family or keep your family from hating you. Title inflation is real. Many people are actually performing one level down from their stated title and those that are not are only not failing due to putting in crazy hours. Middle management wont stickup for their people to ensure they are not burning out. They see it happening multiple times in front of them and they do nothing.
