Pros
Job stability. Overtime, if you need it. They keep their labs so understaffed, they can't afford to let anyone go. Some hard working co-workers, who care about the PETS , and getting results out made it seem like a family within a family, albeit a dysfunctional one.
Cons
The evaluation system is set to only allow a middle of the road review. This ensures they keep their raises down. The raises became insulting about 3 years ago, and continued. Overall negative atmosphere. Overtime is expected ! The hardest working employees are held to a much higher standard, while the ones that do the very least, get away with it. The few people that I knew of getting officially written up 2 times or more really have no worries of repercussions. In reality, these people should have been terminated. As stated in many of the other posts, Human Resources is a joke. They just pretend to listen to your concerns. They and the sales reps. have no clue as to what goes on in the lab. Neither does the senior management. You really have to watch the old school management and human resources people, who have been working together for a long time. They will present a united front, and do nothing to help the various issues . My last day, as I was walking out the door, an incedible weight was lifted from my shoulders. I started a job at a competitor lab, with better hours and pay 2 weeks later. Although Idexx makes you sign a non-compete clause, so they could technically sue me, if they knew. Luckily my new employer understands, and will not give out employee info. easily. I have no trade secrets to share, no research to share. I spent many years at Idexx, and it was a difficult decision to leave. However, the favoritism toward the people who made a point of cozying up to any management and HR, just disgusted me. People clocking back in for lunch, then promptly sitting back down in the cafeteria, was a major issue. Meanwhile, another shift didn''t have time to take lunch breaks, because they were so much busier, yet got docked for a lunch break automatically. This was a very nice place to work several years ago. But times have changed. Sorry to leave, but my emotional state is MUCH better now. I just couldn't work for a company that has steadily went downhill, in so many areas.
