More cons than pros - Veterinary Assistant Mars Employee Review

Pros

Mars has been fairly quick providing us with updated equipment.

Cons

Focused on revenue rather than employees and pet/pet owners. Constantly raising client costs which many people can no longer afford to pay has caused staff to be emotionally affected knowing the pet can be helped but we can do so little other than offer the small discounts we are allowed to offer. Pay sucks. I attended two schools and received Vet Asst. certification from both with a 4.0 GPA, have worked at my hospital for 25+ years and taken many CE classes during those years to stay up to date on animal care. Yet new hires with no animal experience, some hired with no previous job experience, are paid the same amount that I am. Pray that you are not injured on the job and claim L&I because Mars will deny your claim saying your injury was preexisting. They will probably consent to a dog or cat bite witnessed by others while at work but a broken bone or muscle pull, good luck.

Pros

I’ve been at Mars (Yorkville site) for about three months as a Quality Systems Senior Specialist, and so far it’s been a great experience. Everyone has been genuinely friendly, welcoming, and willing to help. The culture feels very supportive—people want to see you succeed and are quick to share knowledge and offer guidance. My manager has been amazing and is truly invested in my growth. She’s helped set clear expectations, encouraged development, and provided the tools and support I need to be successful.

Cons

None so far—still new, but my experience has been very positive.
