Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad you enjoyed working with and learning from our Mavericks. At Mavericks, Story Points is a means of measuring performance. It is not the only criteria that we use for our performance appraisals. We do not micro-manage our people unless an individual is performing very poorly and needs more direct interventions and supervision. For poor performing developers, they are based on continuous monitoring over a period of 3 to 6 months. We evaluate the individual’s proactiveness, initiative, attitude, teamwork, leadership skills and quality of business value delivered to the project. We regularly gather 360 feedback from other Mavericks and our clients when assessing an individual’s performance too. During your stay with us, you might have witnessed consultants leaving due to poor performance. This is because they could not meet these basic requirements despite being given months to improve. Mavericks advocates high performing teams and they take on shared ownership of their work. We rotate roles within the team, including leadership positions. Senior leadership typically functions as our Product Owner where necessary. The team makes decisions and sets targets for themselves. Everyone in the team has an opportunity and ability to propose projects and tech stacks, set priorities and plan our sprints. Our Mavericks are also encouraged to update the story points of their tickets based on the actual complexity of the task once they have started on it. At Mavericks, we don’t advocate for Work-From-Home (WFH). This is reiterated in the final round of our interview process by our CEO and he would have advised you not to take up the offer if WFH is a priority for you. We believe in people working and playing together to build friendship and practice our soft skills at work. But in practice, if our Mavericks have circumstances where they need to work from home, we are flexible to accommodate and generally it is just a simple post in our company chat to update each other of the WFH. We note that our projects may not have been to your interest. However, “interesting” is subjective across individuals and some of our clients do have specific technology requirements. For projects without such constraints, the teams are free to choose the tech stack for their projects. In the last year, we have picked up projects that use Directus, Typescript, Next.js, Directus, AppScript, Wordpress, Tailwind, AWS, etc. for internship projects. We believe that for any competent IT professional with sound technical fundamentals, picking up new technologies should be the simplest thing. Our internship programme is designed to challenge young Singaporeans to be more proactive, confident and better prepared for real world employment when they graduate. The internship covered the whole development life cycle from Discovery / Inception to product development to system implementation and maintenance. And through the processes, an intern will gain experience in various methodologies not limited to just Agile ceremonies, but also pair programming, test automation, CI/CD, DevOps, performance testing etc. Interns will also be given opportunities to lead as Scrum Master and facilitators, or understand and experience roles like BA, QA, UX etc,. The priority is to learn as much as they can and develop their core skills, particularly to learn how to work smart and do the right things. Before you joined Mavericks, the above was shared with you by our CEO in the leadership interview. And it is repeated during your onboarding and the welcome session with our CEO. These are the basic expectations of all Mavericks. He would also have highlighted that our internship is different and it is very challenging. Our programme is designed for people who are proactive, hungry to learn and eager to grow. Our internship vacancies are limited but lots of our interns have benefited from our programme. Many stayed with Mavericks and those who left us are highly sought after by top companies. We hope that your learnings from Mavericks will take you far in the future as well. We wish you the best in your career.

Pros

Starting my HR journey at Mavericks was an incredibly positive and eye-opening experience. As someone who entered the field before pursuing a degree in HR, I couldn’t have asked for a better foundation. Supportive Environment from Day One From the very beginning, I felt genuinely supported. The team at Mavericks is incredibly helpful, and the culture of constant check-ins during training made a huge difference. The trainers were flexible and adapted their teaching methods to match each trainee’s learning style, which helped me grasp concepts and pick up practices more quickly. Room to Grow and Progress One thing that really stood out was the number of progression opportunities available. I started as a trainee and had the chance to work toward becoming a trainer myself. The company regularly held knowledge-building workshops and sharing sessions, which were not only insightful but also broadened my thinking about HR beyond the basics. A Culture of Kindness and Openness The people at Mavericks are genuinely kind and approachable. There was no sense of hierarchy, which made it easy to build strong connections with my colleagues and ask questions without hesitation. That openness made the learning process smooth and enjoyable. Real-World Learning That Supports My Studies Working at Mavericks before starting my HR degree gave me a valuable head start. I had hands-on experience with team strategies, people management, and administrative procedures—all of which I now see from a more academic perspective. It’s been incredibly helpful to be able to relate what I’m learning in my studies back to real scenarios I’ve already experienced.

Cons

I miss my time at mavericks!
