Strong Brand, but Burnout and Micromanagement Are Common - Senior Compensation Analyst Medtronic Employee Review

Pros

Medtronic has strong name recognition and some very capable individual contributors.

Cons

After the CEO transition from Omar to Geoff, the culture became noticeably more budget-driven. Employees increasingly felt like numbers rather than valued professionals. Within Compensation, the culture was unsupportive and highly micromanaged. Headcount was repeatedly reduced without adjusting expectations, and burnout became normalized. Work-life balance suffered, and salaried employees were frequently micromanaged rather than trusted to operate independently. Management showed favoritism, which negatively affected morale. Career advancement was difficult, and moving between departments was challenging even with strong performance.

Pros

The best company I’ve ever worked for.

Cons

Really can’t think of many. It’s heavily matrixed but that’s to be expected.

Pros

Generous, old-school benefits. Almost twice the PTO as other places I've worked, excellent healthcare, 401K matching, etc. Many high-quality colleagues and a generally mellow, polite business culture.

Cons

Multiple competing bureaucracies, internal consultancies, a computer-illiterate 'stakeholder' class with permission to disrupt anything, and perverse incentives driving waste.
