Pros

The views of Downtown Detroit, the convenience of working Downtown, snacks in the lunch room (but really?)

Cons

I am literally copying and pasting another users review on the cons because these are my sentiments exactly! Cons I could go on forever... The biggest problem is management. This company is far too top-heavy. There are way too many middle-managers, directors and VPs - and that's not even to mention Gannett, who owns them, and are equally problem causing. Beside the obvious downsides to being top-heavy, their is polical culture in place and SOOOOO many people are unhappy (I’ve never worked somewhere where so many people hate their jobs). Because of the layoffs (occurred earlier in 2017) people are afraid to speak up, have an opinion or fight for some semblance of divinity. People are doing sub par work (at least on my team) and all this truly contributes to the lack of rev generation for the company. This place is abysmal and while I was able to negotiate a larger salary than the rest of my team it wasn’t worth it. I pay more for parking as result and the rest of it goes to the horrendous medical. Please don’t take a job here unless and maybe only unless it’s in auto motive—they have their spit together it seems.

Pros

I liked the various graphic design jobs I had within this company.

Cons

No opportunity for advancement at the level I was at. I had wanted a job in management, but had been turned down even though my qualifications were exceptional.

Pros

It's a well established organization with many good people still working there and it feels like a family working in the lower ranks. An expert with unique skills who does not rock the boat can work there for many years. Relaxing office atmosphere in most departments, some management is willing to have flexible work schedule. Company is owned by a large corporate parents and is a great place to learn what not to do in management if you are looking to hone supervisory skills by osmosis. Company is trying very hard to be innovative.

Cons

Lack of competent leadership in technology and advertising fields. Cronyism on the top levels of management. Not competitive compensation for high tech jobs. Very limited growth opportunities for people who work hard, new responsibilities are assigned as more people are leaving. Big media company with small IT and Newmedia departments makes it harder to get job done right.
