Pros

Pension, PTO, Location, Health Insurance

Cons

You're pretty much going to be in the same position for years. It is virtually impossible to get promoted into a management position if you are not friends of leadership. Jobs are created with certain employees in mind and there is no opportunity for others to apply. There is very little room for growth, especially if certain managers/supervisors find out that you have applied for another position in a different department. They claim to have a “generous” employee referral program but HR chooses when they want to honor it. Loyalty and hard work are not rewarded! Leadership also asks employees to take on more work with zero recognition, even work which is their responsibility. Bringing attention to any issues with current projects is discouraged. The senior management is not honoring the mission of MTN and is made of up backstabbing narcissistic individuals. Just a heads up if your considering applying for a job here, you have been warned!

Midwest Transplant Network Response

As a small organization (just over 200 FTEs) MTN may face limited opportunities for upward growth into leadership, but as a continually growing organization, MTN restructures and expands roles consistently. New opportunities for growth, including career ladders, job expansion, departmental transfers, and leadership opportunities are often available. MTN seeks to hire and promote from within whenever possible, so creating a learning culture is key to the organization’s success. Recognizing leadership is far more than a title or a position, MTN is committed to providing employee developmental opportunities through training, certifications, a generous educational reimbursement program and an extensive Leadership Development program for staff members. The culture of the organization yields extremely low turnover rates and a high employee satisfaction rate. In a recent survey of MTN staff, 93% of the employees responding (84% response rate) were satisfied with MTN’s company image, Mission and culture. Employees meet one on one with leaders monthly and may attend a luncheon or open group meeting with the CEO on a quarterly basis to pose questions and hold open discussions with her. If this is a culture of interest to you and you are committed is a Mission of saving lives by honoring the gift of organ and tissue donation with dignity and respect, you are encouraged to evaluate our open positions at https://www.mwtn.org/careers/

Pros

Easy to develop good coworker relationships d/t shared distrust in management and workload

Cons

Definitely should have taken the reviews more seriously before applying. Little to no growth opportunity, with petty response from above if you try to move between departments or jobs. Management treats employees like children, they do not listen to suggestions or input (sometimes will respond to superficial input to make it look like they listen). Can’t stick to their own “REAL” value system but are quick to apply it to the slightest infraction, such as framing unplanned absences as a moral failing of the highest order and proof that you are probably the most worthless employee they’ve ever had. Will take every opportunity to criticize your work, all avenues for recognition come from coworkers writing “REAL” awards on their own time. Any claims made that they will “support” you are false. This is a great job for someone with absolutely no life, emergencies, or events outside of work. Every employee has gotten in “trouble” for multiple things, yet several have never been recognized for their work (despite being dedicated and resilient) HIGH turnover rate - refusal to change leads to endless frustration and burnout (it is even part of the employee “work plan” to improve retention, further showing management’s lack of accountability) Very poor training plans for all positions - no clear training pathway, each new employee has a different training experience (or lack thereof), quick punishment for failures resulting from lack of training. DOUBLE STANDARDS EVERYWHERE. They couldn’t enforce the same rules on everyone if their lives depended on it - so much favoritism, targeting, etc. Will accuse employees of various offenses with either no proof at all or word of mouth - and will absolutely not respond to any actual evidence that opposes their vendetta. Endless flow of false promises, fake sympathy, professional avoidance, and lies. Although the process was extremely shady, disrespectful, and borderline inhumane, I’m very happy to no longer be associated with this company.
