Pros

Coworkers are nice, comp was good, you can do a lot of different things within your area as the team is relatively small. The project is ambitious and there's a lot that can be learned from a technical perspective as the skill level of the staff is great! If you go in with your eyes wide open and know what you want out of it, it can be a not-terrible experience. Make sure to protect yourself and not get swept up in the drama. High density of non-cis-het folks, which is very nice to see within the games industry. In its early days it was great fun, with room for experimentation and creativity. The concept of the company is good, the execution not so much.

Cons

Active employees get asked to leave 5 star glassdoor reviews so do take some of them with a grain of salt. Actual company leadership are tech bros who are best friends before anything else. There are also some other very competent folks in leadership to increase the diversity levels for good measure, but when push comes to shove, I don't trust their actual opinions matter. Some folks at the top are toxic and are not open to change. Very high stress, micromanagement, insane staff turnover, constant pivoting of what the project even is, shaming of employees whilst they're not in the room/slack channel (and sometimes when they are), toxic positivity, people getting pushed out by constant gaslighting and poor treatment. Prepare to manage upward a lot. It'll take time for me to recover from the burnout my time at Netspeak has left me with.

Pros

I had a good time working for Netspeak games. Fellow employees are friendly and helpful. The company culture doesn't feel like a cult, its creative and passionate.

Cons

I got released abruptly, despite promised a longer term stay because they ran out of tasks for me. Nevertheless, I got extra pay which gave me a HeadStart for my next search.

Pros

I genuinely enjoyed my time at Netspeak Games. The people here are incredibly nice and supportive, which made the studio feel welcoming from day one. I was able to learn a lot, challenge myself, and really grow in my role thanks to the collaborative environment. Management and leadership were attentive and accommodating, always doing their best to support me and ensure I had what I needed to thrive. It was clear that everyone cared not just about the game we were building, but also about the people making it.

Cons

Like many studios working on something ambitious, there can be fast-paced moments and shifting priorities. It’s not necessarily a downside, but it does mean you’ll need to be adaptable and comfortable with change. At times, tasks and the overall game roadmap could feel a bit vague, which sometimes made it discouraging when the direction wasn’t fully clear. The fast-paced nature of the company also meant there was less time to polish and refine the game as much as we wanted, .
