Pros

- young and new start-up - coworkers are generally nice people - modern tech stack - fast pace if you are into that - remote first - support visa sponsorship (depends on role though, I guess) - business potential (getting attentions from investors and users on their game) - good work challenges that are to help you grow (for both hard and soft skills, even just for three months)

Cons

- not enough staff - constant reminding of on call pressures (for example, mentioning of alteration of contract to include that several times) even though that was not what's discussed at onboarding. - questionable "zero-crunch studio" motto - unclear remote working policies - intense work time for seniors (at least for some) - evaluation and feedbacks could feel poor (lacks objective evidences to support their claims) - not uncommon to hear swearings during meetings especially from managements - very friendly when hiring, but not the same when time to say good bye. you better pack it up fast.

Total lack of psychological safety

Pros

Big salaries, unlimited holiday, some nice people

Cons

- Complete lack of psychological safety - CEO mocking the work of juniors behind their backs - 5 star glassdoor reviews that were prompted by HR on a schedule to offset negative reviews (someone spoke out about this being against the spirit of glassdoor, and the response was that HR only wanted 'honest reviews that would help the company) - Lack of trust from leadership - Tech-led to the detriment of other disciplines - DEI being used to make the company look good, unclear if its something that many C-Levels really care about. Incredibly outdated and offensive diversity value document is in place that talks about 'south asian men walking arm and arm with upper class ladies and being shown london' or something ridiculous like that with racist, sexist and colonial undertones. Someone picked up how off-colour this document was, the CEO responded it was out of date and he would change it, but years later it is still in use. - Staff turnover is ridiculous, lots of people leaving citing burnout which is wild given a game has not been launched yet - Outlook for the game is bad, poor data, and roadmapping towards next round of investment not launch - Incredibly insignificant sample groups being used to talk about 'good' KPIs - Team pivoting wildly all over the place as directed by leadership, not spending the time required to observe the results of the pivots - If you join be prepared to crunch through your probation or otherwise have a back up plan in place. It's a 6-month job interview.

When it was good, it was very good, when it was bad it was very bad

Pros

Coworkers are nice, comp was good, you can do a lot of different things within your area as the team is relatively small. The project is ambitious and there's a lot that can be learned from a technical perspective as the skill level of the staff is great! If you go in with your eyes wide open and know what you want out of it, it can be a not-terrible experience. Make sure to protect yourself and not get swept up in the drama. High density of non-cis-het folks, which is very nice to see within the games industry. In its early days it was great fun, with room for experimentation and creativity. The concept of the company is good, the execution not so much.

Cons

Active employees get asked to leave 5 star glassdoor reviews so do take some of them with a grain of salt. Actual company leadership are tech bros who are best friends before anything else. There are also some other very competent folks in leadership to increase the diversity levels for good measure, but when push comes to shove, I don't trust their actual opinions matter. Some folks at the top are toxic and are not open to change. Very high stress, micromanagement, insane staff turnover, constant pivoting of what the project even is, shaming of employees whilst they're not in the room/slack channel (and sometimes when they are), toxic positivity, people getting pushed out by constant gaslighting and poor treatment. Prepare to manage upward a lot. It'll take time for me to recover from the burnout my time at Netspeak has left me with.
