Pros

Amazing engineers, we truly had/have some of the best people working in support. As long as you demanded/threaten to leave you got promotions. (actually this one is both a con and pro) Free drinks soda and beer Free snacks, if you are quick and get them before 9:00AM rush (they only stock once in the morning)

Cons

Support has toxic management, they will say that you are the face of the company and that we make all the difference if customers renew their licenses, yet support is treated like the back-end of the company. More metrics and KPIs are added almost weekly without regard on how to carry them out and expect current understaffed team to carry them out. Then abandon/pivot to a whole new goal and metric that is even more perverse. Team events are usually held right after major firings or quitings to "shore up" morale. Everyone knows it and sees it as a cheap attempt to keep things together. Team activities are planned but never carried out past the first one, till again a key player leaves or is fired. Seen management fire managers to get their own friends in the door. Completely demoralized the team, some even quit after seeing that. Pay is good only if you have low standards and will brown nose your management. If you are top performer and been there for several years you will likely get almost nothing in terms of raise. Some engineers are not cut out for the job but are kept on due to completely incompetent management that cannot tell if engineer is able to pull the weight and succeed. This causes the team to lag behind as they spend a lot of time helping them. We have many global offices for support, and visiting those offices and meeting with those teams would be a great benefit for the support org, since we work together 24/7 support. However this is never allowed. On the other hand we global HR team, which has no overlapping responsibilities due to different HR laws and practices are flown around the globe in packs of 15-20 people to chat up the bosses and meet their counterparts. How insane. No free parking, the garage is about $200 a month. We had engineers park in 3 hour spots and move their cars around just so they can park near the office.
