Good, quickly descending into not-so-great - Software Engineer Paylocity Employee Review

Pros

Fairly good remote culture. Was remote before COVID, so didn't face a lot of hurdles and shifts other companies did. On the engineering side, most managers are very flexible with schedule and understanding of emergencies, child and pet care, etc.

Cons

Becoming more corporate and less employee-oriented by the day. Keeps making large company decisions, like bringing in contractors (from terrible contract companies that treat their employees like garbage), expanding to other countries so they can get cheap labor, and changing health benefits without any employee feedback. Not that they'd listen to the feedback anyways... There seems to be a new executive every few months that does who-knows-what and gets paid 4x the average head engineer. Keeps hiring management and higher-up engineers that try and change the once-good employee culture into something more stressful and fast-paced, and the company at large doesn't really care because hey, that makes them more money. There's an all-around sense of dread and despair, at least in the engineering part of the company, and a lot of long-term employees have already jumped ship.

Work remote. Fantastic leaders, Definitely a place I have enjoyed working.

Cons

Pros

Great benefits; 90% of the ppl that worked there were the best and really did great work.

Cons

Made employees choose between having MLK Day off or Juneteenth- both which are federally recognized holidays. Excuse was that our customers are open on those days so we need to be open. So as a company, we had to pick which would be a paid holiday and everyone chose Juneteenth because it was in the summer. I think we got a floating holiday to use for any other holiday we wanted off that wasn’t recognized by the company. As you can imagine, this racism was prevalent in management/leadership. My team was the most diverse team and we all got restructured/laid off. There’s a lot of ego and control issues in this company, especially in Talent Acquisition.
