So much potential, but never any action - R & D Engineer III Philips Employee Review

Pros

Products help enrich the lives of people, or directly help save life and limb. Engineers are passionate about their work. Self care is encouraged, and a workplace of compassionate understanding exists at some levels. On-site cafeteria is tasty and cheap.

Cons

In general, despite acquisition nearly 6 years ago by Philips (prior company was Spectranetics), the Colorado Springs site still operates like a small business trying to be acquired. This leads the Site level management (Colorado Springs, CO) to be disconnected from the upper management in nearly all respects. If patient and user safety is top of mind for the corporate management, site management focuses of short-term profit. This is VERY disconcerting for engineers, as your job is jeopardized regardless of action. Design-make-test cycles are difficult due to the sheer complexity of documentation and associated processes.

Pros

The people in non- upper management roles that work there are fantastic. Great sense of community onsite and the culture champions are consistently looking for ways to make work life better.

Cons

Very poor communication on the strategy for the business unit. Leadership publicly promotes innovation and new ideas to be presented but then those ideas are shot down or penalized in private by current upper management. The business unit leadership says that don't want excuses for project delays but will then decide to do 3 major layoffs in the first two quarters with no transition plan, no support for gap in resources and no expectations to delayed progress.
