Pros

The organization is very family-oriented and attempts to create a feel-good environment. It's a pleasure to work with the residents and the heart of the job is a lot of fun. Everyday can be different and it becomes what you make it. The ability to develop relationships with those that we serve is so rewarding and what could keep you there.

Cons

Unfortunately, you can't ignore the favoritism from the top down. The Executive Director seems to not trust employees so sometimes focuses on attempting to catch someone out of line vs. leading the organization. The passives aggressive behaviors and grey areas in policies allow an environment of favoritism and mistrust. There is a clear distinction between the people who have been there for a long time and those that haven't. The organizational layout is a little off and could certainly benefit of having an HR Department which they lack for whatever reason. Also, I know it's the nature of the job but there isn't any opportunity for advancing your career.

Pros

Directly working with people who greatly need services and support.

Cons

Always need more resources to help more people. But that isn't anyone's fault, just nature of non profit work.

Pros

If you are even kinda capable you are pretty much left to your own devices. The managers I have worked with are experienced and knowledgeable if you have something come up.

Cons

Don't expect a lot of support, training, or intervention. Some of the office staff have a bad reputation for the way they talk to and interact with, not only their staff but also Service Coordinators.
