Pros
People are mostly nice. A nice selection of office fruit. That's about it
Cons
Like most private equity backed companies, there's a scrambling culture for growth at all costs. This can sometimes mean we're not building a good product. The company is successful and profitable and yet sometimes the messaging around the office is that we're not (because we didn't meet unrealistic budgets).
There is a slightly weird obsession with office attendance rather than just trusting people to get work done. So much so that they created individual dashboards for people to monitor their own attendance. Upon drilling into the data the report is called "Staff Whereabouts"...reminds me of being back at school
There is huge crossover between roles within Tech/Product and Delivery, so much so that responsibilities are poorly understood and quite often you're just left thinking "What am I supposed to be doing here?".
The approach to planning and delivery is simply to take estimates as gospel and commit hard dates on the team. There is continuous top down pressure from exec, to such an extent that the whole engineering team feel under constant watch.
We claim we're agile but it's waterfall dressed in sprints.
