Pros

Some good friends are to be made. Great for someone young out of college to get their feet wet and make some good money.

Cons

As a remodeling consultant you are only working for commission, while yes you can make up to 6 figures a year which is amazing. But the work that it takes to get homeowners to commit to saying YES its a bit intense. You are basically forced to make them change their mind. But homeowners do have up to 3 days to cancel their order. There is no work life balance, while yes you make your own schedule and you are a commission based employee you are still required during the day to sit in on daily meetings, trainings and now with COVID Zooms from your home. You do not have a set schedule, you can be on from 9am-5am and during the slow time not have an appointment. Or you can be on from 5-8 (which the last appointment is 7:30pm) you have to sit with your phone glued to your hand to see if something comes in, also if you are in Nassau you could have a 7:30pm apt all the way in Brooklyn / Queens ( just think of the parking salutation) I have seen them fire million dollar reps due to having 1 bad quarter. The appointments that are set at times are just a pure joke. Do not let them fool you there is a system to how they send out their appointments.

Pros

After 15 years with the company, the biggest positive has always been the employee-focused culture. They genuinely invest in creating a good work environment, from modern office spaces and great amenities to company events, conferences, and even trips that help build team culture. The flexibility in BT to work remotely part of the week has been a huge benefit for work-life balance, especially with a family. Compensation is competitive within the home remodeling industry, and the company offers solid benefits like 401K and private health insurance. There are also opportunities to grow and learn if you’re willing to put in the effort.

Cons

One challenge is that career growth and promotions don’t always align with seniority or long-term loyalty, which can sometimes feel discouraging after many years with the company. For employees in tech-focused roles, compensation can feel a bit below market compared to the broader tech industry, even though bonuses can help offset that in strong years. Raises without a promotion are usually modest, and while the health insurance is decent overall, coverage for some major medical needs could definitely be improved.
