Pros

Great culture and support network. People are always there to train and make you better. You will never be able to say, “nobody helped me learn the material.”

Cons

If you’re looking for stability and financial security, look elsewhere! The turnover at this company is thru the roof. No base pay. Typical big business mentality. It’s a $2billion company and you only get paid commission. So in other words, the client wanting and being able to afford your product dictates whether you eat or not, not your direct effort. “Bonus” for going into sales is not a bonus at all. Your books will show $4k on them, but that is a “cover their own rear ends” bonus because even if you have sold a gigantic project and it is passed the recision point, the company still takes every cent away from you. The law is in place to protect them against that poor practice from the homeowner, but they do not want the negative reviews on social media so they take the money from the consultant even if the consultant did every bit of their job and earned that commission. Not something you would think a “multi-billion dollar company” would do. In conjunction with the last review, this company places a higher value on the ability to train someone off the street to sell their products than they do investing in the consultants that they currently have. They’d rather fire you or let you walk away than compensate you for your hard work.

Pros

After 15 years with the company, the biggest positive has always been the employee-focused culture. They genuinely invest in creating a good work environment, from modern office spaces and great amenities to company events, conferences, and even trips that help build team culture. The flexibility in BT to work remotely part of the week has been a huge benefit for work-life balance, especially with a family. Compensation is competitive within the home remodeling industry, and the company offers solid benefits like 401K and private health insurance. There are also opportunities to grow and learn if you’re willing to put in the effort.

Cons

One challenge is that career growth and promotions don’t always align with seniority or long-term loyalty, which can sometimes feel discouraging after many years with the company. For employees in tech-focused roles, compensation can feel a bit below market compared to the broader tech industry, even though bonuses can help offset that in strong years. Raises without a promotion are usually modest, and while the health insurance is decent overall, coverage for some major medical needs could definitely be improved.
