Pros

Still offers a pension and access to group health in retirement. Technology job with just a 10 minute commute. Decent "work-life" balance. Peers are many first line managers are easy tio work with.

Cons

Average pay. Advancement opportunities (pay and position) limited. Internal JOP (Job Opportunity Program) currently frozen because of frenetic reaction to large IT intitiaitve that has set unrealistic goals and resource challenges. Largest employer in Bloomington-Normal so it has a captive hold on employees as there are very few (read only one-- CAT) IT employers of similar size within a reasonable driving distance. Bloomington-Normal is stuck in the cornfields and therefore is flat, windy and humid in the summer and bone-chillingly cold int he winter. BN has few natural attractions and is politically/socially fairly conservative and is situated at least 2.5 hours away from big-metro areas.

Pros

(At the time) Fair pay and predictable bonus structure They were pretty good at covering travel expenses and paying them back quickly Diverse workforce & diversity initiatives Fun and funny coworkers Opportunities for growth Again, this was all four years ago and has likely changed

Cons

(At the time and now, according to other comments) Arrogant to a fault Total lack of innovation & willingness to innovate Odd attachment to the company's past (which prevents progress) High number of veterans (20+ years) who are determined to get that retirement money, and therefore, are resistant to change and technology Heavy reliance on command and control management style Poor decision-making that leads to losses of all kinds
