Pros

- Decent place to get experience as a fresh grad or anyone with no prior lab experience - Lots of potential OT - They will never be out of business based on their customer base

Cons

- Very long hours - Lots of samples that come same day need to be processed and analyzed by the end of the day (even samples that come in at 3PM need to be processed (1-6 hours, depending on your prep process) and need to output data before 7PM, sometimes earlier if it's a preferred client. - Management can be intimidating to talk to or just not available. You'll have to rely on your peers for assistance but only if they also know the test you need to perform. -Sometimes management will berate you if you're doing too much OT, even if it it came at the cost of you processing samples they deemed to be rushes (aka highest priority status samples) - Not really flexible about moving departments if you're interested in something else - fumehoods constantly broken, ceiling leaks occasionally. - no air conditioning for lab spaces, you're either freezing or burning up based on outdoor temps

Pros

Generally we weren't bothered or micromanaged in the department I worked in since we had one of the most laborious and time consuming jobs in the lab and were known to get it done.

Cons

Forced DEI principals by on site supervisors as well as the corporate HR will ensure that if there is a situation such as a female receptionist sexually harassing a male employee vs a male employee using a single stall locking female restroom the male employee will be reported while the sexual harassment will be ignored, or when a LGBT employee or black employee starts trouble and falls back on their protected status they will be favored. The workload is immensely unfair because the business doesn't know how to say "no our lab is at capacity we cannot accept your samples at this time" which leads to a ton of overtime.
