Pros
TEKsystems has been recognized as a great place to work by the Fortune magazine and others, but take that with a grain of salt. I had a great time working there my first few months. My 12 hour days didnt seem too crazy because we would pop a bottle of wine open at 7 and continue recruiting. But after 6 months of working 50-60 hours a week, with no lunch break because your taking potential candidates/clients to lunch, it hits you. Is all of this "fun" actually fun? Is TEKsystems going to offer you a progressive career? If you are interested in sales, work at TEKsystems. Work your butt off for a few months in recruiting and get promoted into Account Management. They pay for your car, cell phone and gas. That is the only "raise" you get with a promotion. Your commission structure goes up too, but commission is unreliable in the people business. TEKsystems will train you well and depending on who your DBO is (Director of your office), they are pretty lenient if you have personal things going on. There are some cool office outings and sales meetings, and the training in corporate is great! I had some of the best experiences and met some pretty incredible people, including my significant other. This is a great first job out of college - but just remember, 80% of your office will be right out of college too. So, expect the gossip, drama, BS, chit chatty stuff that comes along with that. And there is a lot of it considering the amount of hours your spend with your coworkers every week. Like I said - GREAT place to start. Get promoted to an Account Manager and leave within 6 months for a better opportunity OUTSIDE of staffing and for MUCH better salary/commission
Cons
OY... there are a lot. I'll try to be brief here.... 1. THE HOURS!!!!! They tell you they are ok with you leaving at 5, as long as your work is done. Youre a recruiter! Your work is never done! We had to be in by 7:45am, which means 8am. You dont get a lunch break because you take your clients to lunch, and the expectation is to stay until 6pm - earliest. Isnt that against some sort of labor law? 2. The people - I really think TEK needs to stop hiring so many kids out of school and bring in AM's (sales people) with professional experience. An older and more mature internal work force will only better the outcome of business and internal equity. 3. Salary & commission - The salary and cost of living if you live anywhere in the NY, NJ or CT area should be all the same. 45K is not a feasible salary when you live in the most expensive place in the county. If your peers in NYC make 60k base salary, NJ, LI & CT should be making 60k, as well. Also, the commission is a joke. This company has so much overhead and commissions can be split so many different ways, it is hard to hit your goals. 4. Inconsistency - the company has a lot of inconsistency along with the changes they are trying to make. With the divisional alignment of AM's only being able to sell certain products, commissions have changed and people are NOT happy. The worst part is, this only affects some people. There are favorites played where certain AM's get to keep certain business because of their "relationships" with managers. It is all a game.
