Pros

- Worked at TELUS for 9 years and moved on in mid 2021 - TELUS offers stability and a steady paycheque - They have some good DEI, community giving, and sustainability initiatives - WFH culture is strong, most employees during the pandemic are remote/WFH, so there's great flexibility - Reputable company, looks good on the resume - Most colleagues are good people, with some bad apples (as you will find everywhere else) - Good employee discounts (40% off) - Good stock purchase plan - Good benefits plan, especially for families

Cons

- Loyalty and years of service aren't rewarded or recognized; new hires can make as much as long tenured employees - Institutional knowledge is taken for granted, leading to loss of leanings and making the same mistakes over and over - Pay raises of 2-4% aren't enough every yea; if you jump to a new job role, you get capped with a salary pay bump of max 15%~ so if you start at a low salary initially, you're forever playing catch up - Very little sense of community, it all depends on your team and department; WFH is great but many employees are lonely and are missing that "tribe" element - They slashed WFH benefits and used to cover some of your internet; this was such a disappointment. They don't cover your heating, office furniture, electricity, internet but expect you to work permanently from home in exchange for flexibility, why can't they give us both? - Pay is above average. They can do that because it's a big well-known company, and can pay less because there are 20 people waiting in line for your job - Didn't even receive an exit interview or survey. The organization just doesn't care to learn why people are leaving, everyone is replaceable - Higher level management is distanced from the day to day, CEO thinks sending long emails every week is engaging yet zero video presence to his employees during my tenure - Lots of higher level politics that override business decisions and common sense - I found TELUS skimps on small benefits to employees but spend millions high ticket items that only benefit senior management, frugality is only for the low level employees - Where are the Black leaders and East Asian leaders here? Glad there's Navin and Zainul, but I can't name a single black director or VP, or an East Asian male VP - No alumni group or benefits... currently using a competitor's cellphone plan because it's better value (Fido) as TELUS offer no discounts
