Promotions are hard to come by since everyone stays for so long.

some truly dedicated staff members and caring folks. decent work-life balance, most folks leave right at quitting time. decent flexibility for working parents (better than for working non-parents.)

lack of leadership at the top, zero opportunity for professional development or advancement, and departmental fiefdoms run by inept and highly unprofessional elders. unethical and disingenuous treatment of long-term employees. most folks stay either 1-5 years or 15+.
