Pros

Getting “Thomson Reuters” on CV as long as you don’t mention that you were in the Reuters events part LOL. Some funny work friends who you’ll trauma bond with

Cons

Where do I even begin. First things first: salary for interns here is only 21k in LONDON (ridiculous). Reuters Events is horribly organised with a dreadful leadership. The management is a cliquey group of people, who had been working at the previous company FCBI before this became Reuters events. They have no clue how to handle management, they are not trained, they have no organisation or professionalism when it comes to dealing with interns and their rotations. I must also add that the management is not diverse at all, and if you don’t give the Brighton, Essex or whatever love island tacky vibe - you just aren’t going to be respected. This office is just a breeding ground for people that peaked in school and university. On internship: I mustn’t complain as this was the only offer I received, but the way my internship ended was actually horrendous. I stayed in the same rotation for the entirety of my internship which was 8 months long, I was very devoted to my role and I always asked for more work. I intended to stay with the team and this is what was mentioned to me very early on. I took a course and qualified to work in my division, which my boss told me I’d need for when I work here permanently. I was always given the impression and specifically told that I’ll be staying at Reuters. Until the last month of my internship I was completely ghosted by my boss and senior management, who didn’t seem to have the decency to reach out to me at all. I was completely blindsided when on my last day of interning - everyone in my team had no clue that I was even leaving (and neither did my manager). After I went home, I got a pathetic email compilation of everyone saying goodbye and thank you. And then a bottle of champagne and flowers to my house, clearly they knew that they were wrong to leave me in the dark and deal with me so unprofessionally. I interviewed for the permanent position, I was so anxious and mind you I had moved cities for this job and had rent to pay - my managers had told me everything would be ok and I would continue working with them. Suddenly a month later after ghosting, I was so tired of waiting that I texted my manager and asked her the outcome of whether I’ll be back. She told me they had hired a different recent graduate who had already done an internship in another organisation with similar skills. I was just gob smacked because what experience can possibly be more valuable than me working in this very role for 8 MONTHS. But I digress. It was absolutely disastrous and I urge any future intern to steer clear of Reuters events, the hiring and manner they deal with you is so belittling. Do not assume that you’ll be treated like a person or valued for your work here because they most likely will not hire you and just use you to say they “had an intern”. It is a horrible way to treat a recent grad student who is having their first ever job somewhere. I can’t believe that these people are allowed to manage others. Nonetheless, I do not blame some people in my team - a lot of them were so lovely and helpful and it’s important to note that a lot of people notice the same things as you. I would just try to find somewhere that you’ll have a future with
