Pros

They offer benefits Some people are friendly They offer PTO You get paid on time You are employed

Cons

Working at Travelers is like being in an abusive relationship, you stay because you hope one day it will get better, they tell you they can change, but it never lasts. Micromanagement is not only a widely accepted, normalized practice but is encouraged and is disguised as "helping" and "coaching". Directionless upper management, rudderless middle management concerned with maintaining perception and brown nosing. Honesty and innovation are discouraged, conformity and perception management are highly prized. I am fairly certain my boss uses ChatGPT when responding to my emails. He sends me lengthy, confusing task lists on daily basis which he sometimes time boxes down to the 30 min increments. You are not allowed any autonomy, and are unable to make even the smallest decisions for yourself. Everything you do will be controlled down to the size, color, font and format in your presentations. My boss frequently gaslights me by disgusting his endless directives as "suggestions" hinting and insinuating of some constant, looming problem with my performance which he is never able to articulate or define. Most of my time here at Travelers is spent responding to my managers countless injuries, and suggestions. If you want to feel inadequate and incompetent this is the place for you. You will never meet expectations hard as you try, they will only move the goal posts, rip apart your work, even if you do exactly as they tell you they will re-do it and make you watch. If you are a female, a person of color basically anyone other than a middle aged white male don't even sniff around this place, unless you want poor mental health and to feel crazy all day. My boss watches my Teams activity and sends me messages if I'm offline. They don't care about people, they care only about how you make them look in front of those with power. On top of all this the pay is low, they run skeleton crews and if you want your Projects to succeed you work multiple jobs, you'll never be compensated they just expect more.

Pros

We receive continuous training to stay up to date with new state regulations and market trends. My colleagues make the day go by quickly. The benefits are very reasonable. There is room for career growth if you know how to network. I appreciate their consistent push for community volunteer opportunities.

Cons

The personal lines department seems to be falling apart right now. Issues with the internal systems are resulting in underwriters doing multiple jobs and becoming a dumping ground for all agent issues even if they aren't underwriting related. I don't feel that the directors are truly expressing to the senior leadership team the impact that all these issues are having on the mental health and quality of life for the employees that are on the front lines trying to maintain a good reputation for the company. It's sad to see how quickly this department has gone downhill and the amount of quality underwriters that are jumping ship for different departments or different companies all together. What's even sadder it that no one with authority seems to care, or listen, when concerns are brought forth. I truly advise anyone considering applying for any position within the personal insurance department to hold off until things start to change - it's not worth the mental anguish that you'll experience.
