Good Company, not a good fit for me - Anonymous employee True North Inc. Employee Review

Pros

Immensely rewarding to work with clients that do so much social good. Company culture is great; co-workers were the kind of people that you would want to hang out with outside of the office, and everyone there frequently did so. Although ultimately I was not a fit for the role I was hired into, I really enjoyed my time there.

Cons

The feedback cycle is pretty harsh. When I first got there, I was asked about my preferred way of receiving feedback. After telling them that stylistically I like to verbally debrief on projects/development points, I was abruptly told that this would be inefficient, and not how I would communicate with either of my supervisors. instead, I was given bullet point emails highlighting my mistakes, and more often than not not offering constructive feedback. This was pretty intimidating, and more often than not I looked to other coworkers when I had questions, rather than my direct supervisors.

Pros

This position is by no means difficult. You are moving around constantly. Making coffee every 2 hours, pizza every 2 hours, other hot foods every four hours.. There is a small freezer to house all the food items and deliveries come 2x per week. If you have a good manager they’ll let you organize it how you want (I was- and I made it more efficient than when I came in).

Cons

My training was pretty much showing me where things were and that was it. A member of management was being trained at the same time so they took priority. If it wasn’t for having experience in food service I probably would have quit. The hot foods like roller grill items, hot box items, and pizza are cooked in a tiny convection oven. Some items need to be turned halfway through or heated through multiple cycles before they’re finished. One minute everything could be full and great and the next you have a 10 minute rush and everything is gone. The pay is on the low end for the amount of work you do.
