Good Company, not a good fit for me

Pros

Immensely rewarding to work with clients that do so much social good. Company culture is great; co-workers were the kind of people that you would want to hang out with outside of the office, and everyone there frequently did so. Although ultimately I was not a fit for the role I was hired into, I really enjoyed my time there.

Cons

The feedback cycle is pretty harsh. When I first got there, I was asked about my preferred way of receiving feedback. After telling them that stylistically I like to verbally debrief on projects/development points, I was abruptly told that this would be inefficient, and not how I would communicate with either of my supervisors. instead, I was given bullet point emails highlighting my mistakes, and more often than not not offering constructive feedback. This was pretty intimidating, and more often than not I looked to other coworkers when I had questions, rather than my direct supervisors.

Fullfilling, Collaborative Experience with Incredible People

Pros

Over the years, I've bottled up most of my thoughts about this company; however, due to multiple attempted defamations by a single former employee, I've decided to express everything in this post. Initially seen as a stepping stone/transitionary job, True North has proven itself to be an excellent place to build a career. Here's why: Your Impact Due to its size, True North allows you to make a big impact in a small shop, allowing you to wear many hats and develop various skills that would typically be restricted to specific roles at other agencies. Your contribution is very evident, especially if you're self-motivated. The People Possibly the best aspect of True North, the people are extremely dynamic & energetic, making collaboration between teams not only seamless, but exciting. The collaboration creates a intricate system of cross-departmental mentorships, as employees at every level are very approachable. The people also foster an inclusive & accepting culture due to the evident office diversity (race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, etc). The Clients While not exclusively non-profits, the majority of the clients TN works with are high-profile NGO's. This reinforces the generous & humbling nature of the job, because at the end of the day, you're using advertising to convince people to donate their money to doctors volunteering overseas, animal rescue shelters, or children with critical illnesses.

Cons

At True North, your experience is what you make of it. Therefore, if you choose to remain only in the routine of doing exactly what is expected of you, and nothing more, your day-to-day at True North may become monotonous and unfulfilling. The size and dynamic of this agency favors self-motivated individuals, making the rest fall behind in their career growth.

Sad

Pros

"All of our senior management started with us at entry levels in their departments." This is the saddest part of the company.

Cons

A major lack of experience or an idea of how to an account.
