Pros

Decent pay and benefits if you make it into the union, If you have a college degree, you will be approached about joining management...i was on day one. I enjoyed the job, but the hours are too long.

Cons

The hours, especially in peak season, are 10-12 hours/6 days a week. Management hazes new drivers like they are in boot camp. In order to make the union, you are required to work 40 days in a 70 day period. After peak ended, I showed up, clean shaven, with my uniform pressed, at the crack of dawn and stood around with the other new drivers until 11:30AM. At that point we were told there was no work today. They sent me home about 3 or 4 days week without any pay for being there for 4+ hours. Very few of the new drivers will make it into the union. One of the guys in my center was there on and off for over 2 years. They tried to lure me to management, which pays much better right away. From what I saw and heard from most of the union drivers...once you make that move, the company "owns" you and abuses you. The managers were usually there before us and went home later...including holidays. Without union protection, UPS will do everything in its power to squeeze every last drop of life from it's employees...as long as it improves its numbers.

Pros

-benefits -coworkers -being around planes - 5 hour shifts -good pay -employee discounts -discounted flights/jumpseat

Cons

-long training on pc -management can be a bit mean -early morning hours -if any delay due to weather or something wrong with plane you stay later -union workers get away with anything -management pays attention more to non union then union -favoritism -dont seem to favorable to disabled or spectrum people -lack of understanding to any personal or medical issues -as management your always having to be there if you miss more then 3 days or get sick or injured you are fired -nonunion gets punished over unionized workers

Pros

The pay is excellent .health care is 100 % paid with 100 %coverage...with exception to eye and dental which is about 70%..coverage...pension is outstanding..full package with wages and benefits is worth 130,000 yearly..without a college education I am grateful for the standard of living UPS HAS AFFORDED ME AND MY FAMILY!...and with 27 years of service I now get 6 weeks vacation with 8 sick days..and 9 paid holidays...we work hard like many people in the work force but we are well compensated!.

Cons

The only con is while your children are young you give up a lot of family time..I never got to watch my kids play sports and missed a lot of their growing years...the job can be hard on your home life but if you can make it through those years you and your family will enjoy the financial freedom that UPS provides...and now I look forward to a prosperous retirement!...so hang in there all you young drivers...
