You'll always have a job. - Software Engineer US Air Force Employee Review

Pros

Stability, stability, stability. Once you're in, you're set. It's almost impossible to get fired from this job, which is good and bad--good because I know even in an unstable ecomomy, I will have a job. Bad because there are people here who don't cut it.

Cons

Poor managers, and sometimes poor employees. Because the USAF doesn't pay as highly as "industry," they don't attract the smartest people--often solid B- or C+ students. I spend a great deal of time maintaining old code rather than writing new--and if I do want to write new, I am confronted by a lot of old fuddy-duddies who don't understand new protocols.

Pros

Getting 2.5days of accrued leave per month is nice, which adds up over time. You can request leave whenever within your schedule and it won't be denied.

Cons

Not too much structure when it comes to squadron training. Depends on your squadron but leadership can really determine your experience.
