Pros

The GI Bill is really the only pro I can think of.

Cons

Literally everything about it minus the GI Bill. Leadership that doesn't care about it's people, only impressing their superiors. Constant bickering and gossiping. The majority of enlistees are incredibly immature with a huge chip on their shoulder. When the leadership feels like morale may be a bit low, lets have everyone come in early on their day off to have a bunch of briefings on why morale should be higher. Depending on your career field, you may not be able to switch (I couldn't). Promotions have literally nothing to do with your character or ability. If you can read a book, remember what you've read and then spew it back at a piece of paper, you get promoted. This leads to terribly unprofessional people in charge. Regardless of your age, if you're lower ranking then you're immediately disposable. Countless times a problem came up, I would offer advice on how to fix it only to be ignored because my rank was lower, even though I was older than most of the people tackling the problem. More often than not, in the end they end up doing it how I suggested at first.

Pros

Teaches you a trade while paying you. Social appreciation. Purpose. If you have no idea what you want to do with your life especially as far as a career goes, run to a recruiter. Regardless of whereever you come from a military career is your stepping stone into middle class and up living and career opportunity.

Cons

Every extra dollar you attempt to make beyond your rank will require more work than you will be paid to do. The real payoff monetarily you get from competing in the military will come in to play during your post life. Confidence, courage, accountability, etc are not standard attributes in people at all.
