Pros

Good pay for people who are unskilled They give lots of training for desirable career fields that are hard to get into through other means(air traffic control for instance) Benefits are awesome- full healthcare for free, $400,000 life insurance for $15 a month, lower grocery bills from access to commissary , free flights to other bases around the world for you and your family, pay almost all moving expenses for moving from base to base including shipping all household goods and a car, yearly stipend for you and your spouse to go to college, and also the GI BILL for after you leave the military or you can transfer it to your kids if you stay in for 10 years or more, retirement payments after only 20 years of service, able to travel to different places around the us and the world, military discounts at a tons of places , heavily subsidized daycare 1/2 to 1/4 of the price of civilian daycare Very youth oriented culture-you can make great lifelong friends from many places very close knit- we take care of our own- there are people i know that haven't had money to go home and other military members have given them the money to go home without needing to pay them back later airman's attic is like the goodwill for free with free clothing uniforms tv's and furniture available for military members free financial advising transition assistance, resume checking and veteran job fairs and 5 point preference on federal job applications when you leave

Cons

You are on call 24/7 so if there is an emergency situation on your off day you have to be there. They are generally good about not asking too much on vacation days, but occasionally there is some training that they will make you go to the nearest base to complete while on paid vacation because someone above wants to see it completed by a certain time for all personnel or they will call you to check in for accountability during natural disasters etc. Demands are not as worth it once you have kids

Pros

Teaches you a trade while paying you. Social appreciation. Purpose. If you have no idea what you want to do with your life especially as far as a career goes, run to a recruiter. Regardless of whereever you come from a military career is your stepping stone into middle class and up living and career opportunity.

Cons

Every extra dollar you attempt to make beyond your rank will require more work than you will be paid to do. The real payoff monetarily you get from competing in the military will come in to play during your post life. Confidence, courage, accountability, etc are not standard attributes in people at all.
