Pros

Guides are generally insulated enough from the operations that FOR GUIDES ONLY it can still be a fun job. If you can work for literally any other tour company you should though.

Cons

Very poorly managed, terrible communication, no job security, constant turnover, people's jobs change with the wind (hey x, I decided to fire y today with no notice to them or anyone else, you'll be doing their job now). The CEO is Lance Zaal. I would encourage googling how he has dealt with Miss Lizzie's Coffee for an idea of the kind of person you're going to be dealing with. For someone who blatantly ripped off the name from the very popular television program Ghost Adventures, you would think he would feel some shame trying to say a small coffee shop using a popular historical figures name is somehow infringing on his IP, yet that's just what he did. Then he put out a statement the coffee shop agreed to change they're name, when they had no idea what he was talking about. That's what it's like dealing with Zaal. He will bully you, lie to you, gaslight you, threaten you, underpay you, and then on a whim fire you. If your position in any way would mean dealing with Zaal directly, don't do it. He will definitely want to retaliate for this review, but I'm leaving it anyway, because people should stand up to bullies.

US Ghost Adventures Response

Hello Anonymous! Thank you for your feedback. We are always appreciative of any opportunity to learn how we can do better and be better for our employees and our stakeholders. However, looking at this review, there is not much to respond to that has anything to do with the job or the company. We would like to respond to your dissatisfaction, but it primarily seems that you have an issue with the President. There does not seem to be much in here about the actual job duties, culture, working with other people, projects, etc. You say you left the review to "stand up to bullies" but it is an anonymous review? All we can say is that there really isn't any constructive feedback in this review. It is more of an attack on one individual. We can't speak to any of the random comments about a coffee shop or a TV show. You can feel free to research trademark law and see that there are plenty of companies that use the words "ghost" and "adventures", many times together. We hope that in the future, you can find the time to send us some rational, specific, actual feedback and we'd be happy to take that constructive feedback and find a way to improve our operations, training, and company culture in a realistic way. Otherwise, we wish you the best of luck in your current and future endeavors!

Pros

I LOVED working for US Ghost Adventures. My job was to write and edit ghost stories as part of the script a ghost tour guide would give to their customers. The editor I worked with was fantastic--so understanding, clear with the company's expectations, and, above all, fair. The work was intense, involving deep research, and writing a certain kind of "spooky" ghost story. Because each script needed 7-10 stories, it was difficult writing new, unique stories. But as I had never worked as a storyteller, it kept me on my toes and gave me valuable experience.

Cons

Considering the intensity of the work, the pay-per-hour should be a bit higher. In addition, when I was hired, I wasn't told that the work was seasonal. In February, I was informed that the work would be ending in March. I was sooooo disappointed. Hoping to be rehired this fall.

Pros

Can make your own hours. Booking app and customer relations hotline make things easy.

Cons

Employer skims the vast majority of the ticket revenue. No pay per guest -- just a flat rate per tour regardless of how many guests are booked. Was supposed to receive a t shirt, a lantern, and EMF detectors, but they never arrived. So I run in period garb. At my own expense. I'm about to go freelance because aside from the nationally recognized name and the Xola booking app, USGA is a net negative to my bottom line.
