Pros

UNIQLO's ideology is inspiring, their sustainability efforts are good for a retailer and the clothes really are well made yet affordable. 30% staff discount in stores is a nice perk.

Cons

Although the founder encourages employees to constantly think like management, new ideas are rarely considered, you are simply told "that is not the Uniqlo way". In 3 years no local Canadian was promoted at HQ and many expats were demoted, which is demoralizing. During meetings everyone is doing other work on their laptops, no one is listening. Women are deemed "agressive" if they speak their minds, not just in Canada but this has been reported in all other western markets. Company goals are set because they sound good, not because they are logical, achievable goals, and then when these goals are not achieved, people are chewed out. Everyone starts with two weeks vacation. There's a big divide between Canadians and expats, very "us vs them". The employee review system is brutal.

Pros

The work is very easy to do

Cons

Very weird work atmosphere. It micro management to the extreme and it’s the worst with the assistant store manager, it’s bordering unprofessional. They don’t like the employees communicating with each other in the slightest, to the point that your coworkers are strangers. It’s not good for the morale. They even require you to have your body language to be in a certain position. And they don’t like when you ask questions about specific procedures about the job that you’d never know unless it is explained. That is a big issue with the assistant store manager she hates to have to explain anything and if she does you can very clearly tell that she is irritated and upset that you asked in the first place.
