Working for UO - Visual Merchandising Manager Urban Outfitters Employee Review

Pros

The people are the biggest pro. I've been with the company for 7 years and can't imagine my life without the friendships I've gained from my time with UO. The discount is decent and I love being able to use it with sister stores like Free People and Anthropologie.

Cons

The Cons outweigh the Pros at this point in my career. After the recent elimination of all Visual Positions, there is nowhere to grow unless you want to be a store manager vs. becoming a merchandiser. The company expects perfection but only provides extremely minimal resources (never enough payroll, poor hourly wages, poor communication from home office). There is never any rhyme or reason as to why things are done until a few weeks have passed and only because of questions and complaints from stores across the brand.

Pros

- nice employees - freedom to choose music from playlist - pretty good discounts (60% off in-store items)

Cons

- horrible and immature management - minimum wage tondo more work than i've had to do in other sales positions (for more pay) - rushed and confusing sales training - forced to empty all bags and pockets before leaving store to prove you didn't steal
