Cons
You’d think being LGBT working for urban outfitters would be cool because there’s usually an abundance of LGBT people working for them. Unfortunately in my case I was disrespected constantly in my first 3 months. Talked behind my back and one of my nice coworkers overheard this and defended me. I talked with my manager about sending out an email to others saying that they should be respectful of me and my situation, she said she’d send an email to the others letting them know to be nice and she never did. Another instance of gross management is when I was severely sick with Vertigo, a sinus infection and couldn’t talk. I showed up for work that day but some time into my shift I realize I really couldn’t stand that well due to the vertigo. I felt like i needed to go to urgent care or the hospital. I also felt like throwing up every few minutes it was nauseating. One of the managers said I should go home. Then the store manager came in after that and proceeded to yell at me about how I needed to stay and that if I “did this again” I would be fired. Also, our store moved locations and instead of them hiring people to move the merch to our other location like they said they were going to we were forced into moving it by hand (no vehicles) down the street and halfway during that day we were told that we had to move everything out by the end of the day instead of giving us the week like we were supposed to have. There was no comp, no food offered like the manager said there was going to be and management (including some from HR) stood around and watched us break our backs, pass out, fall over, cry etc. and they did nothing. At one point we all started revolting and complaining loudly that we were pissed off that we weren’t even getting any kind of comp. then the manager told us we could take 10 minute breaks when we felt like we needed. That helped none. If I wanted to work as a professional mover I would be getting paid 3x the amount of money UO paid me. And after we moved and everything settled, the manager acted like us being in constant pain from moving never happened. All in all the whole store is a toxic place where you get yelled at by your own coworkers for not knowing something, get pushed into manual labor without any comp, have people be so disrespectful to you and who you are, and get threatened to be fired if you’re sick.
