Pros

The health benefits for the individual are reasonable, dental is very inexpensive, and every quarter we get bonuses as long as we meet certain criteria for each of the months involved. We get a 10% discount on non-food items, and as long as you enjoy the work, it is a stable work environment. After your first year, there are annual raises that vary between 20 cents and 60 cents. WalMart also does a lot of community and volunteer work and donates to charities in our community year round. They also contribute to needy families in the store especially around holidays.

Cons

The pay is good comparitavely to other retailers, but not enough to sustain all the bills required to live a comforatable life. You live paycheck to paycheck. There is a lack of communication between management which sometimes backfires on the associate. Holidays are very hectic, as they are one of the top retailers in the world. You are asked to change your schedule at the last minute sometimes, and if you can't comply (they can't force you, but.....) you are looked down upon. The company rules and guidelines change every year. They have recently added a salary cap for each area, and persons already at that cap can never get a raise again. The male to female ratio for pay is unbalanced; almost 95 percent of the males at our store get paid more for the same job than the female does, no matter the experience or education. They discontinued merit raises, so the only salary increase you can expect is your yearly evaluation. We have an open door policy, supposedly not having to fear retaliation from management, but it does happen and you get treated differently.

Pros

Advancement opportunities, great at developing skills, great place to learn a skill and grow your resume, or grow with the company.

Cons

Understaffing issues negatively affects all parts of their business. However, Walmart has increased their minimum hourly rate with hopes to attract more committed employees, and retain better employees.
