Pros

The pay at Wal-Mart is competetive. I made more money doing less there than at my current position. The uniform is pretty basic and comfortable. I was able to wear it outside of work and not feel embarassed. The discount, while nothing to write home about, was helpful when it comes to purchasing general merchandise. I worked at a store that recieved regular bonuses. So, that was a HUGE benefit (even to part-time associates). Wal-Mart is such a big company that the other associates see it as a community. This was great when it complaining about work in the breakroom.

Cons

Wal-Mart loves to give part-time employees full-time hours - - - and not give them benefits. The discount should apply to groceries, but only really helps in terms of general merchandise and produce. The management "team" is horrendous. Most of the managers have no idea what it takes to run a store day in and day out. Their communication skills are non-existent. They love to micro manage associates. I had a total of six managers over me at the store level alone (this doesn't take into account the district managers that were ALWAYS in the store). In a word, Wal-Mart is hard to work for because of: management.

Fantastic company to work for. Such a blessing to be given the opportunity to serve communities and make so many connections.

Cons

Can be stressful at times, but very manageable.

Pros

Advancement opportunities, great at developing skills, great place to learn a skill and grow your resume, or grow with the company.

Cons

Understaffing issues negatively affects all parts of their business. However, Walmart has increased their minimum hourly rate with hopes to attract more committed employees, and retain better employees.
