Pros

Wal-Mart will hire almost anybody and It is easy to do very little (spending half the day goofing off is the norm) as an hourly employee. They often cut hours so an hourly associate may get to go home early.

Cons

Wal-Mart will hire almost anybody and many hourly employees are able to get away with doing very little. Not family friendly because of the extremely inflexible attendance guidelines. Many employees make so little that they must rely on government programs to compensate the lack of insurance. Hourly employees often have their hours cut and lose pay. Salary employees often stay extra hours to make up for this shortage of hourly employees. Store level salary employees are expected to not only work 60+ hours a week but to be able to come in and stay over without any notice. District and regional managers are not respectful of store managers or assistants.

Pros

Advancement opportunities, great at developing skills, great place to learn a skill and grow your resume, or grow with the company.

Cons

Understaffing issues negatively affects all parts of their business. However, Walmart has increased their minimum hourly rate with hopes to attract more committed employees, and retain better employees.
