Pros

There is a great potential for market growth and penetration at Zapier. The company is very open and transparent in most transitions and movements, and executives try to be honest and forthright with their employees. Although specific decisions, such as the recent layoffs, were not made, there is a general culture of transparency at the company. Zapier is a fully remote company, setting it apart from other companies that provide remote work as a perk. The company has a lot of infrastructure to support people working well remotely, which is well documented and supported by other teams and progress. Although it may be considered a buzzword, Zapier allows integrations with AI (mostly ChatGPT) into customers' workflows with a simple button click. This is a unique feature that sets them apart from other companies.

Cons

There have been significant budget cuts in the recent changes (as of H2 2023). The changes have resulted in a reduction or consolidation of individual benefits, support, and bonus plans, which no longer seem to offer any significant benefits compared to the past. The pay is average at best, as seen in any job advertisement, and salary review occurrences will be reduced from next year. Additionally, the bonus goal post has been set too high, and it is expected never to be paid.

Zapier Response

Hi Fellow Zapien - Thanks for reaching out. I appreciate this feedback and want to acknowledge your positive observations as well as your concerns. It's heartening to hear that you recognize the great potential for Zapier to succeed within our mission to make automation work for everyone, and that our commitment to openness and transparency resonates with you. I want to express my sincere empathy for the changes you noted—and I also want to clarify a few points. After the changes you noted above, Zapier's cash compensation is between the 75th and 90th percentiles of the tech talent market. Our salaries remain at the 90th percentile (top 10%) of the market. Our benefits are competitive, though I welcome feedback on where you'd like to see us invest further. We ultimately make tradeoffs at times between investments in cash compensation and investments in benefits—though we've invested in both in recent years by raising salaries while also introducing new benefits such as expanded fertility, family formation, and mental health benefits. Additional feedback welcome anytime—including live if you'd like to meet up. - Brandon, Chief People Officer

Pros

The interviews were low-stress, and it really seemed like everyone I interviewed with wanted me to succeed. Onboarding was no different. There was a lot of great documentation, and everyone wanted to help in any way possible to make the transition a smooth one.

Cons

The only "con" I can think of is that there is a TON to read. That also means that there is a ton of reference material so not terrible.

Pros

- Great colleagues, with very few exceptions. - Flexible hours. - Modern tech stack.

Cons

- In my opinion, leadership decisions often created organizational challenges. - During a CNN interview, the CNN host asked the CEO to explain an answer he gave 'in layman's terms' and I don't think I've ever appreciated an interview follow-up question as much as I appreciated that one (check out 'Zapier CNN' on YouTube). I took Spanish in HS and when I hear people actually speaking it, I catch some of it but not all of it. That's often how I felt when listening to the CEO speak or when I read his company-wide messages. - From my POV, has a 'throw everything at the wall and see what sticks' approach. - CEO seems to think power users are reflective of all users. - In my opinion, CEO responses to challenging questions from employees felt dismissive. I can't say I sensed much humility. - There is a push to "build" with AI that felt oppressive to me. I use AI frequently but I think Zapier has taken it to another level. It would have been tolerable had I seen an effort to tie the "building and shipping" to business results. Maybe that effort was happening but if it was I was not aware of it. I was certainly aware of the AI push. Maybe it was just me but I started to get a 'resistance is futile' vibe.
