Pros

There's an ice machine in the kitchen

Cons

It's a tiring place. Management assumes people are inherently lazy and need to be governed constantly. Innovation is discouraged and it chokes most of the culture out of the work force. They treat people as tools, but tout a "positive culture" based on the occasional bowling game our company breakfast. The truly sad thing is that the people who do the work day-in-day-out are typically brilliant people and would honestly transform the world of grant making if management would listen and develop the staff. C-Suite staff is young and insecure. They tend to toss out catch phrases from the latest trends at meetings, with little meaning to the words. Turnover is high and people tend to get "disappeared" with no mention.

Pros

First and foremost, the staff (both managerial and non-managerial) really go out of their way to make you, and whatever team you work on, feel appreciated and important. The open door policy of managers really made it easy to approach them; questions and commentary were always encouraged! Every quarter, the entire company (including off-site employees) come together to discuss milestones, changes, and expectations from the previous and coming quarter. Though some of the information did go over my head, it's a great way to keep everyone aware of the processes that fall outside of their day to day responsibilities. It drives home the vision of the company and how its envolved since its start. There is food, often and loudly. Made by staff members or picked up on the way to the office, sharing was and is common practice. And as we all know, sharing is caring. On a smaller note, weekly trivia was always a great treat. People from departments around the company would attend which I think created a sense of community outside of our shared work goals. Working at eCivis was a great pleasure for me. But, like most things, it is what you make of it. You can flourish and exceed your own duties with the support of your supervisors and coworkers if you choose to do so. Innovation is hard work, is often encouraged, and is always worth it.

Cons

There is no real ladder to climb, it is a case by case basis on promotions. And it often relies on what others are doing, not necessarily on what you've done.
