Pros

Many employees are very dedicated and talented. Despite many cons, many clients are served because of these exceptional front-line service providers.

Cons

The reviews are clearly one extreme or another. I am guessing the positive reviews by current employees were encouraged or paid off. I often feel like I am an actor on The Sopranos working here. People get fired for no clear reason, people get special treatment, and unethical actions happen on a regular basis. People who speak up and try to keep services, clients, and ethics the primary focus are seen as getting in the way. This organization focuses a lot on "show" and "tell," but ultimately doesn't seem to have the people they serve as the main element to consider in all decisions and actions. Ethics are often thrown out the window to be able to make something look good. And there is a lot of preaching about how to manage but then those with the ultimate power do not use these same approaches. This is an organization where you could potentially get experience, but if you choose to work here, go in with a clear and concrete plan to be an observer and a hard worker, but always be ready to leave because you just don't know what could happen. I predict something scandalous will eventually happen here. I just hope it isn't at the cost to people they serve, but it might be, because those with power are not thinking about how to protect those people. Be careful working here. Nobody has your back. Though they will say they do. And if you have an option for liability insurance in your line of work, purchase it at the highest level while you work here.

Poor leadership and high turnover

Pros

Pay is good and the office is nicely stocked with supplies and equipment to do your job.

Cons

Leadership is confusing and untrustworthy. Turnover is horrific - I have never seen so many people fired or walk out with little to no notice. The CEO should be called "Heads Will Roll Pearson" as he seems to fire staff (even upper level management) regularly. It always feels like you're fighting to keep your head off the chopping block. Terrible office politics here - so much backstabbing and gossiping about other coworkers...ironic, since this is a social service organization. Front line workers (case managers, outreach, admin staff, etc) work so hard and under so much pressure , but they are almost never recognized or appreciated whatsoever. Morale is awful. They like to cheat you out of pay - they'll forget to approve or pay your mileage and they'll rearrange pay dates, so you end up going an entire month with half of your pay (and this is after you go an entire month in the beginning without a paycheck). The SSVF program says they are housing first, but they are not. It is like a revolving door with clients. They bring them in and exit them so fast. They don't work to stabilize clients, so as soon as they're exited, those clients end up homeless again. Training is a joke here - they tell you how to fill out their paperwork and put files together, but there is no development of their staff - no skills training.

Pros

GOOD AT ACTING AND PRETENDING THEY CARE ABOUT THEIR CLIENTS

Cons

-lying; the alteration of documents, including financial records -lying to clients - discrimination, sexual harassment, misuse of confidential information, lying to stakeholders, improper hiring and safety violations. - falsify financial information of their nonprofit organizations to conceal the embezzlement and misappropriation of funds -misuse of funding and lack of public trust -do not follow up with clients -Too many officers, directors and managers that make inflated salaries while the "little guy" is the real worker and doesn't get paid what he's worth. Office politics, childish backstabbing and gossip galore -all about getting grant money, but put up a front as if they care about veterans and their families -they hire only a specific type of ethnic group -they hire un-qualified family members -navigators are rude, malicious, prejudice, bias, etc
