Great Direct Staff/Sub-par Leadership

Pros

The caseworkers/clinicians are dedicated to the mission and care for their clients. They are the backbone of the agency. During my years there, my team/supervisor was very supportive.

Cons

High stress, but that is part of the field. Had to pay for parking, again part of the field. Executive leadership has no clue how to discuss things properly with staff. Constant miscommunication, rules change all the time with no discussion around it, felt like I was talked to like a child and not a working adult. Constant mistakes on my pay check and talked to like I was to blame instead of fixing the issue. Changed the mission statement, but didn't change your attitude towards staff and clients. Felt like executive leadership did not support my supervisor even though they tried to make things better for us. There is a obvious lack of respect from executive leadership only; its known throughout the agency.

Pros

Dedicated Direct Staff: caseworkers, clinicians (family-based & family focused), and supervisors.

Cons

Slanderous activities perpetrated by Senior Leadership after employees have transitioned (on their own accord) into different roles within another organization is a MAJOR issue with this “company” (I use that word lightly). Senior Leaders (Directors and current ED Laura Maines) spread vicious, harmful lies about performance to other agencies with the intent of PURPOSELY destroying your career. You are essentially being punished for leaving ECI. Let’s also point out the lies, rumors have no merit and no proof. They are simply offensive and disrespectful. This is known throughout the company, but staff are careful about what to say to whom because there will be repercussions if Laura Maines does not like you. Whether it’s about your clothes, hair, or personal taste, she will take those characteristics and destroy your reputation, both internal and external with other organization. Pittsburgh’s non-profit community is small and tight-knit. Things get back to people rather quickly, unbeknownst to ECI’s leadership. Overall, I cannot strongly suggest not to work for this agency. There are other strong non-profit organizations that are looking for bright, hard-working talent and will appreciate your efforts. The above reviews are 100% correct and they are not “Bad Mouthing” the company. The lack of professionalism is amazing, how is name calling permitting and acceptable? This agency does not realize people do this work because the love it. These same people are becoming fed up with ECI’s unprofessional behavior with leadership. Throwing bonus and salary increases is just a Band-Aid, a façade to show they “really care.” Start with treating people with respect and perhaps turnover would not be as high. Numbers don’t lie. It's shame because this is all about families and children and they are not receiving the proper services that we should offer.

Poorly structured organization with no idea of where it is headed

Pros

Caseworkers care deeply for clients and families and do best they can. Working from home is a plus. Milage is paid.

Cons

$250 sign on bonus was an outright lie. Employees are told to lie on timesheets to not include any overtime. Absolutely no training other than videos. Turnover is unbelievable.
