Pros

There are a lot of perks including free lunch, happy hour, fitness equipment, showers & laundry. Good benefits including, 401k with company match, health insurance, and maternity/paternity leave. It is a great place to work if you have little to no experience because they mostly hire people fresh out of college because they are less expensive and more malleable. It's a small company, so you can talk to the CEO and President whenever you want. This is nice. They have a lot of interesting things to say. There is a library full of educational business books that you can check you any time you want.

Cons

Culture is very important to leadership, and raises/promotions are based on how "cool" you are rather than the quality of your work. This causes people in non-leadership positions to spend a lot of their energy trying to outshine one another instead of focusing on doing what they are good at and working together. Your salary will be 50% - 75% of your market value. You are given a mentor, however, it is very likely that your mentor is not much more experienced than you are, and he or she has only ever worked for FurnitureDealer.Net. If your job performance is not up to par, your mentor is more likely to tell leadership behind your back than to give you helpful advice to help you improve. Technology and innovation are behind current trends. The technology team lacks focus, and most initiatives go unfinished. Technology team leaders are very condescending and disrespectful to other people within the company. The company is falling behind. When they started, almost every client would rank high on SEO, now they are on the same level as or behind other furniture websites. There is no one with actual human resources or conflict resolution training.

Enjoyable at the start, but not a place to build a career

Pros

-There are a lot of cool people who work at FurnitureDealer.Net -Some nice "quality of life benefits" when working in the office, though most of those have become irrelevant while working from home during the pandemic. -Solid response to the pandemic. FurnitureDealer.Net did a good job transitioning to a work-from-home style in 2020. Hopefully, this is something that continues.

Cons

-Little to no communication about raises/promotions. You will start at FDN being underpaid, and unless the president really really manages to take a liking to you for some abstract reason you can expect to stay underpaid for a very long time. -Poor communication between departments. -Generally poor management, especially from the leadership team. There doesn't seem to be a cohesive vision for the company going forward. -Lacking benefits package. -Extremely concerning administrative practices by the president of the company. It's obvious he doesn't want to be doing administrative things, and he doesn't seem to be very good at it either, yet he doesn't do anything to change this. -When you're in the office, the president can create a very toxic environment. He spends a lot of time yelling at different customer service people over the phone with his office door open. -Employees have been discouraged from bringing up concerns about pay and career path to the core leadership team. Especially Andy. -If Andy does not like you or does not notice the things you are doing for the company it can become nearly impossible to advance. -Sometimes uncomfortable expectations to mix your personal and professional life. It seems the people who enjoy working at FurnitureDealer.Net the most are people who are fine mixing their work and personal lives. If you're not that person, this isn't the job for you.

Pros

The hours are extremely flexible and nobody really holds you accountable for anything. You can basically get paid to do very little if you choose that route (which some employees do, unfortunately). The office itself is also pretty nice with nice bathrooms and the employees are pretty friendly and welcoming. The culture is somewhat forced, but ultimately there are some good office vibes a lot of the time and there are plenty of ways to get to know your coworkers.

Cons

The work itself is boring and unfulfilling. You don't gain any real experience or new skills. If anything, the monotonous work is actually detrimental to skills you may be trying to build upon. It's basically just a place where people go after college who aren't quite ready to grow up yet. The pay is also not the greatest. It’s more or less a good starting point for a lot of people before they find something else. The owner's biggest driving force is what others think of him. There is a ton of weird stuff around the office, most likely there to make it look like the Google headquarters or something, but it’s really just a place for a guy to try and make people like him. The owner also just makes things pretty uncomfortable in general with his outspoken demeanor, language, and overall temperament. He and several other employees even rate you with a number during the interview process. It’s as crazy and uncomfortable as it sounds. He does have a few good qualities, too. Despite his faults, he seems to really care about his business and some of the employees. He’s just not the greatest at running it, especially in a conventional and appropriate way.
