Mediocre managers never realise their shortcomings

      Pros

Good working environment when busy and projects are going well, but toxic blame culture soon kicks in when things get difficult. Committed people in the delivery stage of projects. Pleasant day to day.

      Cons

Management are from a pool of shareholders that have been allocated Principal and Associate status. They are not the most capable or accomplished people in the company by a long way, but are those that have played the share acquisition game well. This has become a "Group Think" club where alternative thinkers are excluded, so it is going stale and there are few opportunities for innovators. Wrong measures are valued and rewarded. You have to fit in or leave as "alternative thinkers" are marked and their careers stall. Not a place for talented people. Sidelined seniors with lots of shares get made up nonsense positions so they can continue milking dividends, and they then sit there until retirement. Meanwhile, the workers bees are flogged harder to pay for them. Senior management are mediocre at best (mediocrity always promotes mediocrity, but never knows that it is mediocre) so do not have the talent to spot the causes of issues. They therefore squeeze the obvious short term issues such as utilisation, going as far as robbing loyal employees of their annual leave to prop up shareholder dividends, which contributes to the large staff turnover. Easier for them to listen to the bean counters than to work out an intelligent strategy. Senior managers cannot do basic sums and would rather let an effective employee leave than pay them the market rate (usually from another job offer). Guess what? Yep, they then have to pay the market rate for a replacement, hope that they are good enough and spend another fortune training them. You could not make it up. They try to show a caring and sharing culture, but this is fake and phony. Human resources exist to protect the company, so employees will get no support. Avoid if you have any professional pride or value your mental health.

      Pros

I work in a great team with a good leader. Really well supported by direct leaders Business Group Leader down. Your personal experience can be great as mine has been with the right team leader.

      Cons

Management are all lifers so only know GHD. Blind to how other companies operate. Renumeration is bottom of the market and some people I know of haven't been paid their full wages for 6 months due to payroll glitches that they can't/won't fix. They talk a great game about supporting employees but as above shows, they don't follow through on their words.
