    Positive Outlook

I worked at GHD full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Good teams - Very friendly - A wide variety of projects - Multi disciplines - Various scales of projects

    Cons

    - People not held accountable when failing to deliver - Too much focus on quality, not enough on time and cost

    Advice to Management

    - Get more prepared to handle large scale projects - Resource planning required at a central level, not down to individual managers

I have been working at GHD part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Multinational company with international transfers very common. Staff in the office are friendly, happy and helpful, even across multiple workgroups. "Silos" aren't a problem. Multi-disciplinary projects are common and teams work well together. End of month drinks and other free staff socialising events are held regularly, these are the kind of people who will go out together after work for a Friday arvo drink or... just hang out together on weekends. Lots of interesting projects and plenty of opportunity to chase projects that interest you. Managers are approachable, they listen to their staff and actually care about making changes to fix problems.

    Cons

40hr work week minimum. Salary package includes overtime, and it is often expected that you work extra for free. Employee owned company, but focus is still on profit and only top 25% of staff can buy shares. The biggest savings come from unpaid overtime and low wages. If you negotiate yourself a decent package, everything else is fine, although they will (understandably) take someone cheaper if they can. I have... been asked not to speak to others about what I get paid and I know there are several others who were asked the same. There is no union presence whatsoever.

I have been working at GHD full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good opportunities provided you have proven yourself as valuable and there’s actually current projects to work on. Good environment and team cultures and great people to work with, flexible working arrangements.

    Cons

Slow progression, low pay. Frustrating for less experienced staff if there’s lack of work. Could just be the nature of consultancies and current climate though.

    Advice to Management

Focus equally on those that do not self promote the same way as their "favourites"

I worked at GHD full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Employees (some employees) are invited to own shares.

    Cons

This applies only to the Advisory part of GHD. The core issue is leadership. Leadership may not be so critical when a company is established and operating in a mature market. This organisation (Advisory, not GHD) is really quite new. The market, or at least parts of it are changing rapidly. The current leadership is not appropriate for the task at hand. Mistake follows mistake, the damage is starting to show.... Key people have left, are leaving or are actively looking for somewhere else to go. The strategy isn't a strategy. The document that masquerades as a strategy is a series of statements that have no connection to the market, the past performance, the organisation, the clients or even the capabilities of the teams. The workforce is inappropriate. Too many people are not able to sell or do the sort of work that is required to give an advisory firm credibility. Many of these people however are 'in the tent'. This is a problem now, and will only get worse with time. Expansion is in contraction: Growing through acquisition and headcount is one thing. Integrating the entities and managing the resultant organisation requires certain skills. Remuneration is not competitive. This is probably harder to solve given the relative size of Advisory to the parent company. In summary, if you are looking to work in a place where you will be appreciated, paid appropriately and where the leadership has a clear (credible) vision for the future, then keep looking.
