Pros
Being able to help others in need on a large scale, by working with national non-profits is the biggest positive of GoodUnited. You end each day knowing you've put some good back into the world.
Cons
Leadership is tone deaf to issues they've created. They reward their "favorites" and are loyal to them to a fault. When the favorites lose revenue, contribute to a very negative company culture, and treat others with a lack of respect, the favorites get promoted or moved to another position. If you speak up with concerns, the "open-door policy" that is bragged about, comes back to bite you. Be careful what you say, and whom you say it to. The co-founders claim that they want everyone to have an equal voice in the room, all ideas are important, no matter what your position is. However, when things aren't going the way the co-founders expect them to they yell in staff meetings and blame the tribes on needing to "put more time in the office." Their virtues of "Do less, better" and "Fiercely take care of one another" go out the window immediately. There is no diversity at the company. Every full time employee is white, and all of the people in leadership positions are men, except for one woman. Layoffs have been happening for over a year and a half now. Two years in a row, they have laid off people the week of Christmas, and both of those rounds of layoffs included their only diverse hires. Budgeting adequately and paying attention to the overall financial health of the company don't seem to be a priority. Unfortunately, this impacts all of the employees who make it through each round of layoffs; their mental health, their capacity to do quality work, and their work/life balance.
